Outside of school and work, I enjoy doing things that help me relax, have fun, and just enjoy my own time while taking my mind off of the more important things in life. One of my hobbies is reading, especially when I know that I’ll have a long period of quiet time to myself. I also like going on hikes, walking new trails, and overall I just really like being outside. I also really enjoy trying new gyms/ workout studios and finding new coffee shops to try a new change of scenery and a fun new drink every now and then. Although these are simple things, they are some of my favorite ways to spend my free time.
Another interest that has become more important to me over time is fitness. When I was younger, I was overweight and honestly did not think as much about my health or being as active as I am now. As I have gotten older and started to care more about my physical appearance and health, my mindset has changed a lot. I have started to care more about taking care of myself and aim to become a healthier version of myself. I used to have a gym membership at Gold’s Gym, but after moving into my apartment I realized I no longer needed the membership since my apartment complex has a gym that has almost everything I need and regularly use for my workouts. I try to go to the gym as much as I can, whether I am lifting weights or just getting some small cardio in. Although some days can get busy so I can’t always make it to the gym, those days I still try to at least put aside 30 minutes to go on walks. Over the years, I’ve realized that being active does not always have to mean doing a hard core workout. Sometimes even doing something small such as going for a walk,l still leaves me feeling accomplished.
Overall, I try to make staying active and taking care of myself a normal part of my everyday life. I am very proud of how much my mindset has changed since I was younger because I feel like I have more discipline and a better idea of the person I want to become. Fitness is not just about changing the way I look. It is also about feeling better, becoming more confident, and proving to myself that I can stay consistent and disciplined.
